Good news! Facebook has acknowledged that there is a bug in the new Timeline for Brands (Page) format, and they are working to fix the bugs; however, this fix only addresses the refresh issue for tabs (applications). They are hoping to fix this issue shortly. This will allow you to be able to Fan Gate content and have it automatically refresh – like the current Pages do.

Unfortunately, there is no news good on Default Landing Pages. It looks like, Landing Pages, which were introduced in 2009, are dead and gone. With this in mind, the new Timeline for Brands allows for the use of a cover image. These images can be 850 px by 315 px; however, there are some major restrictions. Here are the restrictions from Facebook:

“Cover images must be at least 399 pixels wide and may NOTcontain:

  • Price or purchase information, such as “40% off” or “Download it at our website”
  • Contact information, such as web address, email, mailing address or other information intended for your Page’s About section
  • References to user interface elements, such as Like or Share, or any other Facebook site features
  • Calls to action, such as “Get it now” or “Tell your friends”

All cover images are public, which means anyone visiting your Page will be able to see the image you choose. Covers must not be false, deceptive or misleading, and must not infringe on third parties’ intellectual property. You may not encourage or incentivize people to upload your cover image to their personal timelines.”

We’d also like to point out that Facebook’s new Timeline for Brands allows you to go back and put a History of your organization, or candidate. You can add photo’s or images to the Timeline, but can only go back to 1800.

While we still encourage you to wait before upgrading to the new Timeline for Brands, you strongly encourage you to start looking at creating your cover image, and putting your history together. These changes are going to happen on March 30, 2012 and you should be prepared to go into the changes seamlessly.
